2026 City of Reno general election candidates
You can find the results of the 2026 primary elections on the Washoe County website and Nevada Secretary of State website. I also reported on them here.
NOTE: All of the following City of Reno races are nonpartisan.
Many candidates are active on social media; see their campaign websites for links to those platforms. Candidate images below are screenshots from their campaign websites.
RENO MAYOR (4-year term)
The office of Reno Mayor is an open seat, as current Mayor Hillary Schieve has termed out, having first assumed the office in 2014. The two candidates for Reno Mayor in 2026 are Kate Marshall and Kathleen Taylor. It’s an unusual situation in that Taylor is already serving on the Reno City Council as the representative of Ward 1, so a victory by her in the mayoral race would leave her current Council seat vacant.
Although the Reno City Council has the option of filling suddenly vacant Council seats either through appointment (by them) or a special election, they have in recent years always chosen to fill vacant seats via appointment. Current City Councilmembers Devon Reese and Miguel Martinez, as well as Kathleen Taylor herself, all initially gained seats on City Council via appointment after their predecessors resigned, although they all subsequently won elections to stay there.
If Kathleen Taylor does not win the mayoral race, she will continue to serve on the Reno City Council, with her Ward 1 City Council seat next up for election in 2028.

Kate Marshall is a lawyer and a teaching professor of Business Law at the University of Nevada, Reno. She previously was elected to the office of Nevada State Treasurer (serving from 2007-2015) and to the office of Nevada Lieutenant Governor (2019-2021). In 2021, she took the position of senior advisor to governors in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Kathleen Taylor is the current Ward 1 Reno City Councilmember. She was appointed to City Council in 2022 to fill the vacant Ward 5 Council seat and was elected to the Ward 1 Council seat in 2024. She owns Taylor Made Solutions, LTD, which handles public involvement plans for major transportation projects. Prior to her Council appointment, she served on the Reno Planning Commission (2013-2015 & 2019-2022).
WARD 2 RENO CITY COUNCIL (4-year term)
The two candidates for the open seat of Ward 2 Reno City Council are Matt Johnson and Summer Pellett. The seat is open as Naomi Duerr has termed out after 12 years.

WARD 4 RENO CITY COUNCIL (4-year term)
The two candidates running for the Ward 4 City Council seat are incumbent Meghan Ebert, who was elected in 2022, and challenger Eduardo Gomez.

RENO CITY ATTORNEY (4-year term)
There is only one candidate for Reno City Attorney (current City Attorney Karl Hall is retiring), so Zelalem “Zee” Bogale is the only name on the ballot.

There were only two candidates for Reno Municipal Court Judge, so both Angela Gianoli and Jenny Diane Hubach proceeded to the General Election. More here.

NEW! OCTOBER 14th WARD 2 CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE FORUM
The League of Women Voters of Nevada is hosting a FREE forum with Ward 2 Reno City Council candidates Matt Johnson and Summer Pellett on Wednesday, October 14th at 6pm at the Wilbur D. May Museum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
The Nevada Independent hosted a Reno Mayoral Forum with Kate Marshall and Kathleen Taylor on September 30 at the University of Nevada, Reno and has posted the full video on YouTube (below).
